八月望后，余自金陵溯流而上，至小孤山。山势险峻，状如屏障，上有古刹，钟声悠扬。山下有小溪，潺潺流淌，汇入江水。远观大孤山，其形似巨兽伏卧，与小孤山遥相呼应。舟行其间，风平浪静，唯见天高云淡，水波不兴。

及至黄昏，余登小孤山顶，极目远眺，但见江水滔滔，东流入海。夜幕降临，星河璀璨，天地之间一片宁静。忽闻渔歌互答，声声入耳，顿觉心旷神怡。

次日晨起，复乘舟往大孤山。沿途风景秀丽，树木葱茏，鸟鸣婉转。抵岸后，步于山径，石阶陡峭，苔藓斑驳。山巅有一亭，可览四面风光。回望小孤山，烟雾缭绕，宛如仙境。

归途之中，余心有所感，遂作此记，以志此行。

On the eighth day after the full moon, I set out from Nanjing and traveled upstream along the river to Xiaogu Mountain. The mountain was steep and rugged, shaped like a screen with an ancient temple on top where the bell sounds were melodious. Below the mountain flowed a small stream, gently merging into the Yangtze River. In the distance, Dagushan appeared like a giant beast lying down, echoing the form of Xiaogushan across the waters. As my boat sailed through this area, the wind was calm, and all I could see was a vast sky with sparse clouds and undisturbed water.

As evening fell, I climbed to the peak of Xiaogushan and looked far into the distance, seeing the mighty Yangtze River flowing eastward towards the sea. As night descended, the starry sky shone brightly, enveloping the world in tranquility. Suddenly, I heard fishermen's songs echoing back and forth, resonating in my ears, which made me feel relaxed and refreshed.

The next morning, I continued by boat toward Dagushan. Along the way, the scenery was picturesque, with lush trees and melodious bird calls. Upon arriving at the shore, I walked up the stone steps leading to the summit, which were steep and covered with moss. At the top stood a pavilion offering panoramic views. Looking back at Xiaogushan, it was shrouded in mist, resembling a fairyland.

During my return journey, I felt inspired and wrote this account to commemorate this trip.
