Elementary English Story: The Blind Men and the Elephant
Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived six blind men. They had never seen an elephant before and were curious to know what it looked like. One day, an elephant was brought to the village, and the blind men were allowed to touch it.
The first man touched the elephant's trunk. He said, "An elephant is like a snake—it is long and flexible!"
The second man touched the elephant's leg. He exclaimed, "No, an elephant is like a tree—it is strong and sturdy!"
The third man felt the elephant's tail. He smiled and said, "An elephant is like a rope—it is thin and curly!"
The fourth man reached out and touched the elephant's side. He declared, "An elephant is like a wall—it is broad and flat!"
The fifth man held onto one of the elephant's ears. He laughed and said, "An elephant is like a fan—it is wide and soft!"
Finally, the sixth man touched the elephant's tusk. He nodded and said, "An elephant is like a spear—it is sharp and smooth!"
Each man believed that his description was correct because he only experienced a part of the elephant. They argued loudly, each insisting that their view was the truth. None of them realized that they were all describing different parts of the same animal.
A wise man passing by heard their argument and smiled. He explained, "Each of you is right in your own way, but none of you has seen the whole elephant. To understand something completely, we must consider every part."
From that day on, the blind men learned to listen to each other and work together. They realized that true understanding comes from sharing knowledge and looking at things from different perspectives.
And so, the moral of the story is: "One should not jump to conclusions based solely on limited experiences or observations."
